Bard, Aosta Valley

Bard

Member of I Borghi più belli d'Italia

At the narrowest point of the Aosta Valley, the Dora Baltea swings around a rock crowned by a 19th-century Savoy fortress. In May 1800 the fort on this rock held up an entire French army; restored, it now houses the Museum of the Alps. Below it, Bard keeps 15th and 16th-century houses along the old Roman road to Gaul, today walked as the Via Francigena.
