Auvillar
Member of Les Plus Beaux Villages de France
Goose-feather quills for calligraphy and pottery once kept Auvillar prosperous, and by the early 19th century some 3,000 boats a year passed along its stretch of the Garonne. The village stands on a rocky spur above the river, with its old port quarter below. Pilgrims on the way to Santiago stop to see the circular market hall, the clock tower and the church of Saint-Pierre.
