Privacy
Locus has no accounts, no ads and no tracking, and we never sell or share data. This page says exactly what happens when you use it.
No analytics, no cookies
We use no analytics or tracking scripts, and Locus sets no cookies. We don't know who you are or which villages you look at.
What stays in your browser
A few things are saved in your own browser (its local storage), so they are there next time. They never leave your device and we never see them:
locus:trips:v1: your trips: their names, stops, start and end, pace and day breaks;locus:trips:deleted: a trip you have just deleted, so it can be put back with Undo;locus:lang: the language you chose;locus:theme: whether you chose a light or a dark look, if you did;locus:thermal: whether the thermal baths layer is on in the Explore page’s map;locus:add-villages-open: whether the planner's "Add villages" section is open;locus:donate: for the occasional "buy us a coffee" note: how long you have used Locus since it last showed, when it last showed, and whether you asked not to see it again.
The map page also remembers its search and the village you had open, and the planner whether you closed its village panel, until you close the tab (session storage). If your browser blocks storage, your trip is kept in the tab itself until you close it.
To clear all of it, delete this site's data in your browser's settings (often under "Cookies and site data"). Deleting a trip in My trips removes just that trip.
Other sites your browser contacts
To show maps, photos and articles, your browser loads them directly from these services, which see your IP address as any website you visit does:
- OpenFreeMap (tiles.openfreemap.org): the map tiles, labels and symbols;
- Wikimedia Commons (upload.wikimedia.org): the photos of villages and food;
- Wikipedia and Wikivoyage: only when you open an article in the reader.
- Wikimedia Commons (upload.wikimedia.org): a free recording in an itinerary's soundtrack, only when you press play.
Their own privacy policies apply: OpenFreeMap, Wikimedia.
Other sites, such as Google Maps, Booking.com, Spotify, YouTube, Apple Music, OpenStreetMap, Wikidata, Google Translate and Ko-fi, are contacted only if you click a link to them, and then you are on their site.
Hosting
Locus is hosted on Cloudflare Pages. Like any web host, Cloudflare handles each request and may log details such as IP addresses and the pages requested, to run and protect the service. Cloudflare's privacy policy.
