Bergheim
Member of Les Plus Beaux Villages de France
A double medieval wall still runs almost unbroken around Bergheim, and most of the town lives inside it, in a rounded rectangle roughly 300 by 500 metres. It lies among vineyards on the Alsace Wine Route, at the foot of the Vosges. Wars and plague emptied it in the 17th and 18th centuries, and newcomers from Switzerland, Germany and further east repopulated it.
