Monflanquin
Member of Les Plus Beaux Villages de France
Alphonse of Poitiers founded Monflanquin in 1256 as a military bastide on a hill above the Lède valley, where Périgord, Quercy and Guyenne meet. It changed hands more than once in the Hundred Years' War and was taken by Protestant forces in 1574. Later it ran a departmental tramway network, from 1911 to 1933.
