Guardia Perticara

Member of I Borghi più belli d'Italia

After the 1980 Irpinia earthquake, this small village 750 metres up in the Val d'Agri set out to restore its old centre to its medieval form. People lived here as early as the 9th century BC, and tombs found at San Vito have shed light on the Oenotrians, the region's ancient inhabitants. The tower on the town crest recalls the seven lookouts that once guarded its land.
