Poppi

The castle of the Counts Guidi, recorded from 1191, towers over Poppi, whose walls trace an unusual L shape from the castle to the abbey of San Fedele. Dante stayed here in 1307 and again in 1311, and the battle of Campaldino was fought in sight of the castle in 1289; a museum on its ground floor tells the story.
