A great gypsum monolith, Monte San Paolino, rises over Sutera, and the sanctuary on its summit, built on the ruins of a castle of 1370, keeps the relics of the town's patron saints. Below it the Rabato quarter keeps the layout of an Arab village: gypsum houses piled together, narrow alleys and steep cobbled steps. The town is a stop on the Magna Via Francigena pilgrim route.
