Its name means 'cork-oak wood', from the Latin suber, and a cork oak stands on its coat of arms. The walled medieval village lies in the Val di Cornia a few minutes from the Tyrrhenian coast, below the Rocca Aldobrandesca, and makes its own Val di Cornia Suvereto wine. Twice a year its three districts race 500 kg wine barrels through the paved streets in the Palio.
