Usseaux
Member of I Borghi più belli d'Italia
In the upper Val Chisone, where Occitan is still spoken, Usseaux and its four hamlets are a lesson in mountain farming architecture: stone and timber houses pressed together around shared fountains, washhouses, bread ovens and a water mill. About forty murals of rural life, animals and fairy tales cover the walls of the main village, while Balboutet, higher up, has some twenty painted sundials.
