Valvasone Arzene

Member of I Borghi più belli d'Italia

Everything in Valvasone was laid out around its castle, which guarded the Tagliamento crossing for the Patriarchs of Aquileia from the 13th century. Enlarged in the 1350s, the town became one of the finest pieces of medieval planning in western Friuli, and though its walls came down in the 19th century the old layout survives. Since 2015 it has shared a municipality with neighbouring Arzene.
