Berlanga de Duero

Member of Los Pueblos más Bonitos de España

Below a hilltop castle in the gorge of the Escalote river, Berlanga de Duero was a frontier stronghold of the Caliphate until Ferdinand I took it in 1059. In the 16th century its lords, the Tovar family and later the Marquises of Berlanga, reshaped the town with a vast collegiate church and a Renaissance palace. A porticoed main square, timber-framed houses and the old Jewish quarter complete the scene.
