Ayllón
Member of Los Pueblos más Bonitos de España
At 976 metres in the north-east of Segovia province, close to Soria and Guadalajara, this old town headed a medieval community of villa y tierra and hosted the autumn meetings of the Mesta sheep-herders' council. In 1411 it gave its name to a treaty between Castile and Portugal. Most of its monuments date from the 15th and 16th centuries, and beech woods and river gorges lie within easy reach.
