Angles-sur-l'Anglin
Member of Les Plus Beaux Villages de France
Some fourteen thousand years ago, Magdalenian artists carved monumental friezes into a rock shelter here, the Roc-aux-Sorciers, now closed but shown to visitors through augmented reality. Above the Anglin, a half-ruined castle first built for the Bishop of Poitiers crowns a rocky spur over winding medieval streets. The village is also known for 'les jours d'Angles', openwork textiles born in the 19th century and loved in the Belle Époque.
