Beynac-et-Cazenac
Member of Les Plus Beaux Villages de France
Seat of one of the four old baronies of Périgord, Beynac sits on the Dordogne below the medieval Château de Beynac, facing Castelnaud across the river. Simon de Montfort seized the castle in the Albigensian era, but the lords of Beynac got it back and kept it until their male line died out in 1753. The hamlet of Cazenac lies three kilometres to the north.
