Gourdon
Member of Les Plus Beaux Villages de France
Locals call it the Eagle's Nest: Gourdon clings to a sheer peak 760 metres up, with steep drops to the river Loup. A single entrance leads into the main street, thick ramparts shut off the north side, and the castle, open since 1950, has gardens laid out by André Le Nôtre. The views over the valley are the main draw.
