Tourtour's nickname, the village in the sky of Provence, comes from its hilltop of Beau Soleil, with views from the coast at Fréjus to the Montagne Sainte-Victoire. It grew up along the course of its spring water, which still feeds eight fountains, a wash house of 1778 and an oil mill that is still working. The Bastide de Tourtour hotel appeared in the film The Day of the Jackal.

Highlights

  • Eight village fountains, including one of pink-veined Candelon marble
  • The wash house of 1778, its water cool in summer and winter alike
  • The oil mill, still working, fed by the village spring
  • Views across the central Var to the Montagne Sainte-Victoire
  • Ruins of the Florièye abbey and a medieval bridge over the Florieye
