Allerona
Member of I Borghi più belli d'Italia
The name comes from the strawberry trees that once filled the woods south of this hill village, which kept watch for Orvieto on the road towards Chiusi. Stretches of wall and two medieval gates, Porta del Sole and Porta della Luna, still enclose the old centre between the Paglia valley and the Valdichiana. Fog often settles in the valley below, leaving the village standing clear above it.
