Monteleone D’Orvieto

Orvieto built a castle here around 1050 to watch its northern borders, and from the hilltop the view still runs over the long Val di Chiana to the mountains of Tuscany and Lazio. The old public granary became the Teatro dei Rustici in 1732, a tiny horseshoe theatre of 96 seats. Each 16 August more than 400 costumed figures parade before the Giostra del Giglio horse contest.
