Capranica Prenestina

Chestnut woods cover the slopes around Capranica Prenestina, scattered with old stone drying huts once used for mosciarella, the local dried chestnut. The small village lies on the Monti Prenestini east of Rome, among karst uplands, beech woods and high pastures. Its territory reaches up to Guadagnolo, Lazio's highest hamlet, and the Mentorella sanctuary, one of the oldest Marian shrines in Italy.
