Castellabate

An abbot gave the place its name: Costabile Gentilcore of Cava began the Castello dell'Abate in 1123, and the medieval village grew around it on a hilltop of about 280 metres. From the top the view takes in the whole bay between Punta Licosa and Punta Tresino, now a protected marine area. Below lie the seaside hamlets of Santa Maria and San Marco, settings for the film Benvenuti al Sud.
