A terracotta Madonna and Child by Donatello, rediscovered in the early 2000s, is the prize of San Francesco, one of two churches here filled with art paid for by the Vitelli family. The walled village rises above the Tiber valley, with views to La Verna, Gubbio and Assisi, and Garibaldi sheltered here with his volunteers in July 1849.
