Frontino

In 1522 the castle of Frontino held out against the Florentines of Giovanni delle Bande Nere, and the village stayed loyal to the Montefeltro dukes ever after. The smallest comune in its province stands on a spur over the Mutino valley, facing Monte Carpegna, inside the Sasso Simone e Simoncello park. On a wooded knoll nearby, the Franciscan convent of Montefiorentino holds an altarpiece by Raphael's father.
