Ferla
Member of I Borghi più belli d'Italia
Rebuilt after the earthquake of 1693, Ferla is a small Baroque town in the Iblei mountains above the Anapo valley, close to the rock-cut tombs of Pantalica. Its two main streets cross at a Quattro Canti modelled on Palermo's, and along them stand churches such as Sant'Antonio Abate, whose curving façade is made of three concave sections.
Highlights
- Sant'Antonio Abate, with its curving Baroque façade and stuccoed octagonal dome
- San Sebastiano, the largest church, its façade carved with the saint and soldiers
- The San Martino necropolis, with prehistoric tombs and Byzantine catacombs
