Buccheri
Member of I Borghi più belli d'Italia
The highest town in the Hyblaean Mountains, Buccheri stands at 820 metres on the slopes of Monte Lauro, and its cool summers draw people up from the hot coast. The remains of a Norman castle crown the hill; below, the town rebuilt after the 1693 earthquake has Baroque churches such as Sant'Antonio Abate, set at the top of a long stairway. Pinewoods and old snow pits surround it.
