Lovere
Member of I Borghi più belli d'Italia
On the north-western shore of Lake Iseo, where the Val Camonica opens, Lovere climbs from the waterfront up towards the mountains. Medieval tower-houses recall its feuding past, while Venetian rule brought wealth from the woollen Panno di Lovere, which paid for the Renaissance basilica of Santa Maria in Valvendra. On the lakefront, the Accademia Tadini, opened in 1829, displays works by Canova and Hayez.
