Montelupone
Member of I Borghi più belli d'Italia
Artichokes are the pride of this walled hill town 12 km from the Adriatic, celebrated with a festival in early May, while in August the ApiMarche fair is devoted to beekeeping and honey. Four medieval gates lead to stone-paved streets and the piazza, where the 14th-century Palazzo del Podestà and civic tower stand near a neoclassical theatre. Down on the plain is the Romanesque abbey of San Firmano.
