Mulazzo
Member of I Borghi più belli d'Italia
Dante is the presence everyone talks about in Mulazzo, once capital of the Spino Secco branch of the Malaspina, the family that hosted the exiled poet around 1306. The village stands in the mountainous Lunigiana on the right bank of the Magra, and stayed a tiny sovereign marquisate until Napoleon's abolition of imperial fiefs in 1797. The navigator Alessandro Malaspina was born here.
