Pico

Member of I Borghi più belli d'Italia

The castle of Pico, recorded from the 11th century, is where the village began, its first houses growing up around the walls. In 1123 its lord used the fortress to imprison the consul of Fondi, until Montecassino's abbot besieged it the following year; the Farnese later held it. A magpie, the pica that may have given Pico its name, crowns the town arms.
