Boville Ernica
Member of I Borghi più belli d'Italia
Eighteen square and round towers still ring the medieval walls of this town on a lone hill above the Liri, Cosa and Sacco valleys, known as Bauco until 1908. After the walls held off Neapolitan troops in 1204, the pope granted it self-rule, and twelve families governed it for more than four centuries. In San Pietro Ispano hangs a mosaic angel by Giotto, rescued from old St Peter's in Rome.
