Castro dei Volsci
Member of I Borghi più belli d'Italia
The old centre stands out on the last spur of the Monti Ausoni above the Sacco valley, and on clear days the view runs from Palestrina to Montecassino. Nearby, the abandoned settlement of Montenero is ringed by walls of huge stones laid without mortar, which gave rise to a local legend of giants, though they were built by the Volsci. The actor Nino Manfredi was born here.
