Ricetto di Candelo
Member of I Borghi più belli d'Italia
Not a village people lived in but a fortified store, the Ricetto di Candelo is a walled pentagon of about two hundred 'cells' where the community kept its wine and fodder and took refuge from attack. Built around the turn of the 14th century, it is one of the best-preserved medieval complexes in Europe, crossed by lanes called rue and entered through a single gate tower.
