Seborga
Member of I Borghi più belli d'Italia
Since 1963 Seborga has elected its own prince, claiming it was never properly joined to Italy, and it issues a souvenir currency, the luigino, accepted in the village. The small village stands on a wooded ridge above Bordighera, surrounded by olive groves and flower fields. Its real history includes centuries as a fief of the Benedictine monks of Lérins and a 17th-century mint.
