Puebla de Sanabria
Member of Los Pueblos más Bonitos de España
A frontier stronghold close to Portugal, Puebla de Sanabria stands on a spur between the rivers Tera and Castro, given its charter by Alfonso IX of León in 1220 to guard the border. Walls, a castle and streets of traditional Sanabrian houses climb to the top, where the views open out. Lake Sanabria, the largest glacial lake in the Iberian Peninsula, is about 10 km away.
