Cardaillac
Member of Les Plus Beaux Villages de France
On the line between the green farmland of the Limargue and the poorer Ségala, country of rye and chestnuts, Cardaillac takes its name from a knight given these lands by Pepin the Short. A stronghold went up on its rocky promontory from 1064, and Richard the Lionheart attacked it in 1188. Three 13th-century towers survive from the fortress.
