Villeneuve
Member of Les Plus Beaux Villages de France
One of only five bastides in Aveyron, Villeneuve belongs to the wave of planned new towns laid out across south-west France in the 13th and 14th centuries. Its story survives in stone: the Porte de Cardalhac, the Tour Soubirane, the church of the Saint-Sépulcre and a priory are all protected monuments and the commune also has two listed châteaux.
Highlights
- The church of the Saint-Sépulcre, a listed historic monument since 1925
- The Porte de Cardalhac and the Tour Soubirane, gateways to the old bastide
- The châteaux of Ginals and Toulongergues, both listed monuments
- The Tourbière du Rey, one of the region's rare alkaline marshes
