Fontevraud-l'Abbaye
Member of Les Plus Beaux Villages de France
The royal abbey gave this Saumur-country village its name and its fame: it became the burial place of the Plantagenets, and the painted effigies of Henry II, Richard the Lionheart and Eleanor of Aquitaine still lie in the nave. The abbey lies in a valley where three brooks meet, inside the Loire Valley World Heritage area and the Loire-Anjou-Touraine natural park.
