Gordes
Member of Les Plus Beaux Villages de France
Gordes climbs a limestone outcrop of the Monts de Vaucluse, looking across the Calavon plain to the Luberon. Around the castle at its top spread hamlets, mills, fountains and hundreds of dry-stone huts called bories, and to the west lies the Cistercian abbey of Sénanque, among lavender fields. Artists helped revive the village after the Second World War.
