Venasque
Member of Les Plus Beaux Villages de France
It was Venasque that gave its name to the Comtat Venaissin, the papal territory it served as capital until Carpentras took over in 1320. The village sits on a steep rocky spur where the Nesque gorges open out, with views to Mont Ventoux, while the slopes below grow cherries, table grapes and wine.
