Lavaudieu
Member of Les Plus Beaux Villages de France
Until the 15th century the village was called Comps; its new name, Lavaudieu, means 'valley of God' and comes from the community of nuns founded here in the 11th century. On the Senouire, the Abbaye Saint-André keeps a complete Romanesque cloister, unique in Auvergne, along with Romanesque wall paintings and a Byzantine-style fresco in the refectory. The GR 300 long-distance footpath passes through.
