Rochefort-en-Terre
Member of Les Plus Beaux Villages de France
In the early 1900s the American painter Alfred Klots bought the château of Rochefort-en-Terre and restored it, and his son Trafford went on painting there and hosting visiting artists. The Breton village climbs the southern flank of a rocky ridge, its old town held in by a loop of the Saint-Gentien stream. In 2016 French television viewers voted it the country's favourite village.
