Sainte-Suzanne
Member of Les Plus Beaux Villages de France
William the Conqueror kept a camp here from 1083 to 1086, and its earthworks, the Camp des Anglais, can still be seen. The walled medieval town stands on an isolated hill above a 70-metre drop to the river Erve, with a wide view over the Anjou plain. Inside the ramparts, closed to cars, the keep and château house a centre on local architecture and heritage.
