A fortified abbey church sets the tone in Saint-Amand-de-Coly: built in the 12th century by Augustinian canons, it is ringed by ramparts and has a tall nave that blends in Gothic techniques. The village lies off the main roads in the Périgord Noir, eight kilometres east of Montignac. In August the church hosts classical concerts for the Festival du Périgord Noir.
