Saint-Robert has been settled for a thousand years, and its houses are laid out around a fortified 12th-century church, 345 metres up in the Yssandonnais hills of Corrèze. The village sits right on the border with the Dordogne, about 22 kilometres north-west of Brive-la-Gaillarde, with the river Elle running along the commune's south-eastern edge.
