Ségur-le-Château
Member of Les Plus Beaux Villages de France
The name comes from the Latin securus, 'safe', fitting for the main seat of the viscounts of Limoges, also styled viscounts of Ségur, whose small principality ended with Henry IV as its last heir. The village sits in a loop of the river Auvézère, overlooked by its castle, close to the border with the Dordogne. The valley around it is a protected natural area where dippers feed in the river.
