Four lanes meet in a small square at Canale, a medieval hamlet of Tenno 600 metres up in the hills above the Trentino end of Lake Garda. Stone houses are linked by covered passages, and several facades carry frescoes, mostly modern. Half-emptied after the First World War, it was revived by artists, above all the painter Giacomo Vittone, and by newcomers who restored its houses.
