Castelvecchio di Rocca Barbena
Member of I Borghi più belli d'Italia
Old stone houses, joined by arches over the lanes to brace them against earthquakes, cluster below the Castello dei Clavesana on its rocky spur. The marquises of Clavesana built up the village in the 12th and 13th centuries, and the Del Carretto later moved their residence into the castle. Today the Alta Via dei Monti Liguri and a network of mountain-bike trails cross the hills of the Neva valley.
