Chiusa – Klausen
Member of I Borghi più belli d'Italia
Albrecht Dürer stopped here in 1494 to draw the town, and his view is thought to survive in the engraving Das große Glück. Klausen grew as a customs post in the narrow Eisack valley below Säben, a rock-top monastery that was a bishop's seat before Brixen. The long, narrow houses of the Upper Town back straight onto the river.
