Cornello dei Tasso

The Tasso family, who from the 15th century built a courier network across Europe and became the princes of Thurn und Taxis, came from this hamlet in the Val Brembana. Cornello lost its trade when a new valley road bypassed it in 1592, and that isolation kept it intact. Reachable only on foot, it rises in four tiers on a rocky spur above the Brembo river.
