Cherries are the pride of Garbagna: the Ciliegia bella di Garbagna is protected as a Slow Food presidium. The village lies in the Tortona hills on the right bank of the Scrivia, and from 1548 it was one of the seven imperial fiefs granted to Admiral Andrea Doria. A local theatre company keeps the Garbagna dialect alive with comedies written in it.
